On-Campus Degrees: Physical Therapy
Physical therapists use a range of techniques to alleviate pain, increase mobility, and limit or prevent permanent disability from injury or disease. Their tools include hot packs or cold presses, deep-tissue massage, ultrasound and more. General physical therapy practice is possible, or therapists may specialize in sports medicine, neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, orthopedics or cardiopulmonary physical therapy. The path to licensed physical therapy requires a master's degree plus licensure. Typical coursework at the master's degree level includes biology, anatomy, biomechanics, and therapeutic procedures. Applicants must pass national and state examinations to practice as physical therapists. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that physical therapists made $71,520 in 2007.
