Campus & Online Degrees: Dental Assisting

Dental assistants work under the supervision of dentists while performing administrative and basic clinical tasks to keep the office running efficiently. They are likely to perform tasks such as sterilizing materials and providing assistance during clinical procedures. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job prospects in dental assisting are expected to be excellent in the coming years as dentists choose to expand their practice by hiring more assistants. The BLS notes that dental assistants saw mean annual earnings of $32,280 in 2007. Advancement in the field typically requires more schooling. The American Dental Association reports that 87 percent of dentists offer reimbursement to their dental assistants for continuing education courses.
