The criminal justice field offers careers for people with technical, therapeutic and investigational interests. Training for detectives and officers includes coursework in law and investigation techniques. Technical careers, such as forensic science, may require a bachelor's degree or higher with a specialized biology or forensic science major. Graduates of criminal justice programs can be found working in corrections departments and on forensic teams, leading private detective firms, or moving up in the police force. Correctional officers earned $39,970 in 2007 while bailiffs earned $38,510, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That same year, private detectives and investigators earned $42,660, and forensic science technicians earned $50,310.
